Agia Efimia

Agia Efimia is located on the eastern side of the island exactly opposite Ithaca. It is a beautifully picturesque village that offers a peaceful and relaxing location for visitors.It was traditionally a fishing village, with a small harbour. These days the harbour houses a variety of vessels, including yachts, sail boats and small speed boats. Many boats travelling around the Greek islands stop in Agia Efimia.There are many small coves with beautiful beaches in the area that are only accessible by boat. From the harbour you can hire a boat and explore the area by yourself. For those looking for a little more adventure why not try exploring under the water, Aghia Efimia is home to one of only three diving centres on the islandLeaving the village and heading directly across the middle of the island you reach Myrtos the most famous beach on the island and in fact in Greece, here the beauty is accentuated by the pure white pebbled beach and crystal clear blue waters.

Myrtos Beach

Myrtos beach is famed for its crystal clear blue water and white sand. Ιt is rated in the top ten beaches of Europe and in the World. It's astoundingly beautiful, just like on the picture postcards, and featured in "Captain Corelli's Mandolin", starring Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz. Backed by steep limestone cliffs, this two-kilometer stretch of white shingle gives onto a moody sea, which changes colour from milky turquoise to indigo with the swirling of the waves.
Facilities on the beach include a snack bar, sunbeds and parasail hire, showers, W.C'S and telephone. Whilst development is restricted within the beach vacinity, there are a couple of nice Tavernas at the start of the access road down to the beach in Divarata.
